Nationwide has announced it is increasing its unsecured personal loan rate by 0.2 per cent for its existing customers.
The rate now stands at 7.9 per cent for loans of £7,500 to £14,999 for up to 5 years but is only available to the lenders existing FlexAccount holders those who have deposited at least £750 into their account for the last three months.
Other borrowers are also offered competitive rates on their loans based on their credit record and risk profile.
Nationwide have been joined by Asda in offering the cheapest personal loan, although the supermarkets product is not restricted to existing customers.
Nectar card holders are also being offered a 7.9 per cent loan rate from Sainsburys Finance, while Tesco Bank, formerly known as Tesco Personal Finance, and online provider personalloan.co.uk are currently offering personal loans at a rate of 8.0 per cent.
The next best rate on the market is Alliance and Leicesters 8.7 per cent personal loan .
