A credit broker based in North Lincolnshire has had his consumer credit licence renewal application turned down by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).
The OFT took action after the Financial Services Authority rejected an application from Vrajlal Laxmidas Sodha for permission to carry out regulated activities.
The OFT said that Mr Sodha was unfit to hold a licence due to a history of consumer complaints, stubbornness in the face of warning and disciplinary action, and a lack of respect for regulatory requirements.
The decision was confirmed after the Consumer Credit Appeals Tribunal agreed with the OFTs verdict, despite an appeal from Mr Sodha.
As a result, Mr Sodha's businesses - MNS Financial and MNS Consultancy - are no longer allowed to introduce consumers to lenders, or engage in any other licensable activity.
Ray Watson, Director of Consumer Credit at the OFT, said: "There were large numbers of complaints against Mr Sodha and his failure to address regulators' concerns means that refusing him licence to trade is the best way to protect consumers."
