Personal loan users reminded to plan before they purchase

Personal loan customers have been given tips to ensure they do not end up out of pocket after shelling out on furniture during the Easter bank holiday weekend.

Many people look to take advantage of the four-day break by sprucing up the house, perhaps by buying a new double bed, sofa or dining table.

Consequently, government advisory service Consumer Direct has taken the opportunity to remind customers to undertake basic checks before buying, such as checking sofa labels for cleaning instruction.

Moreover, the organisation has recommended that shoppers look to obtain a fabric sample before committing to help them be confident the new settee's floral pattern does not clash with the curtains.

Finally, it has suggested that homeowners should measure house dimensions to ensure the table will fit through the door.

"Buying furniture on impulse can be particularly troublesome," remarked Carol Brady, operations manager for Consumer Direct.

"You'd be surprised how many people buy large items of furniture without first taking measurements."

People planning to arrange a personal loan before embarking upon a spending spree this Easter may be able to get a cheaper deal by comparing the lending rates offered by several personal loan providers.
